Tiscali
I%u2019ve decided on making Tiscali my first review as it could have been one of the best if it wasn%u2019t for one very big problem, it%u2019s usage policy. Tiscali is now available on broadband at a very good rate, I%u2019ll go through two of them quickly by here. For £15 per month you get broadband, weekend and evening calls and more importantly the line-rental is in with the price. Almost every other provider you go to asks you to pay approximately £15 or whatever plus your line-rental at over £10 per month as well.
This is quite a big saving and their site is well set out but their fair usage policy for me was the biggest letdown I have ever had on the computer. Their restrictions are so much worse than others, Eclipse is a good example. I download a lot in all fairness but I did try and keep most of my downloading to evenings but couldn%u2019t always do that. In my job where I work on computers I am forever downloading drivers etc but also downloaded other things and after getting a VERY early warning I slowed down on my usage as best I could.
After my next warning I used it to only download drivers and still didn%u2019t meet the quota. After that they started slowing my Internet down so much I couldn%u2019t use it for anything, not even getting my emails. I called and explained this to them and after being told everything would be sorted I gave it some time, no improvement. The short story is I eventually gave up and cancelled even though I was still under contract and cancelled my direct debit, I won%u2019t pay for something I can%u2019t use.
As well as the above option you can pay £20 per month and have all your local calls free. The only extra to the bill should be any mobile calls or the dreaded 0870, 0845 or 0844 numbers. All in all I can%u2019t recommend these because of the usage policy but if they get this sorted then it will be a good deal.
Next we will look at my current provider Eclipse who have a great fair usage policy and excellent all round service.
